Pregnancy is undeniably a magical time in a woman's life. The journey of growing a baby inside is nothing short of a miracle. A woman’s body goes through extraordinary changes to nurture the new life she’s creating. It is a time filled with both blessings and challenges. A mom-to-be must navigate physical discomforts, emotional ups and downs, and the anticipation of meeting their little one. Despite the hurdles, the joy of feeling the baby's kicks, seeing tiny movements on ultrasounds, and imagining the future with the new addition to the family brings immense happiness and fulfillment.

Pregnancy encapsulates the essence of strength, resilience, and unconditional love as a woman prepares to embrace motherhood.

It seems that the 9 months of pregnancy is a long time but in reality it goes by very fast. That’s why having a professional maternity session is a wonderful way of making sure that these special moments are being captured for you to look back on, and to be able to show it to your children in a future how their mom and life looked like back then.

This article will cover three things:

  • The best time during your pregnancy to take maternity photos

  • What to do if you are at risk for early delivery

  • When to contact your photographer and book your session

What is the best time during pregnancy to book a maternity session?

Most photographers, including me, recommend to have your maternity session between 28-36 weeks. This is usually the best time of your pregnancy. Morning sickness is gone, your belly is nice and round and you’re not feeling uncomfortable or super tired yet.

What if you carry multiple babies or there’s a chance of an early delivery?

Every pregnancy is different and has its own challenges. In a case of caring multiple babies or if there’s a chance of you having the baby early of course we can take the photos sooner. As a documentary and lifestyle photographer I can create beautiful and meaningful photos of your unique story any time. We can brainstorm ideas of how to capture this time of your life and come up with a plan that will be appropriate to your needs.

When to book your maternity session?

I recommend to contact me after the end of your first trimester. You can also wait until your 20 week check mark. You should book your session sooner than later because there is a smaller window of time for rescheduling if there is a need to do so.
